Fireworks!

So the "HSBC Celebration of Light" fireworks started tonight in Vancouver. Today was Canada's turn, this Saturday is Sweden (who won last year), next Wednesday is China and then the following Saturday is the "Grand Finale".

There were apparently more than 1.2 million people out at the various beaches in Vancouver (English Bay, Kits, etc.) tonight to watch. I had a bunch of people over and we cruised around Robson St., Denman St. and the seawall until about 9pm and then headed back to my place to watch from my balcony, have some drinks and dinner.

The crowds on English Bay beach were crazy! Went on for miles - these pics don't even really do the masses of people justice - pretty insane!

The cops were out in full force with "zero tolerance" for booze and other illegal things that are so common here in BC! There were video cameras every where and helicopters with spot lights after the show.

Check out all the boats in English Bay waiting for the show to start at 10! Very cool vibe as all the streets were closed at 7 pm in teh west end (where I live) so we could cruise on the streets.

The pics I tried to get of the fireworks didn't come out but I got a few of the swarms of people heading home after (in slow mo). It reminded me of The Jays winning the World series in T.O. and the crazy street party!
This is the corner of Davie and Thurlow as seen from my balcony - masses of peopel for about an hour after the fireworks ended!

Yikes, all those helicopters and police sounds like martial law! The police budget must be big and fat for all that chopter fuel. Great pics, but why aren't there any of the fireworks?
